The Wharton Training High School Alumni and Ex-Students Association is a group of people who attended Wharton Training High School (WTHS) in Wharton, Texas. They were influenced by Teachers and Community Leaders who set high expectations for them in citizenship, morality and personal achievement. During a period from the 1920's to 1968 the students who attended WTHS excelled in education despite the limitations imposed by the laws of segregation in schools and the community. This was a community where most people knew everyone and operated much like a village. The WTHS teachers lived with and among local families, attended the same churches and chaperoned students to school and church sponsored events.
This school created adults prepared to enter the work envionment with confidence and a positive attitude. Although the laws did not always support them, they knew that they were qualified and capable of accomplishing whatever they set their minds to do. From this small community came, High Ranking Military Officers, War Heroes, Physicians and other Healthcare Providers, Lawyers, Educators, Air Traffic Controllers, Law Enforcement Officers, Politicians, Successful Business Entrepreneurs, Professional Athletes, Musicians, Obscure Inventors and many other contributing citizens to our country.
The purpose of the Wharton Training High School Alumni and Ex-Student Association is to:
1. To meet annually to promote unity among the ex-students and the community.
2. To keep the legacy of WTHS alive and preserve our cherished archives.
3. Promote the spiritual, physical and economic health of the Wharton, Texas lower income community.
4. To provide scholarships to deserving students of the Wharton Community.
